STEM

We have work to do

You’ll agree that the world has moved into a technological era and young people will really need to align with that line of thinking. From the building of cool robots and machines to solving the current challenges of the world, young people need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what the norm has been. It's time to challenge the status quo, and with STEM, we can do just that!

OUR APPROACH

How do we actually do our STEM work?

While Africa catches up with the rest of the world in development, it is fundamentally important that emphasis is laid on creating a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) culture among the citizens of this continent.

Who is?

Who do we start with in our STEM efforts?

We believe that the perfect audience will be young people in middle school as that is where primarily, we define our core interest which guide future decisions. The curiosity of children is valuable and involving them in practical concepts and activities of STEM. Introducing STEM to middle school students will give them great understanding into STEM and how they can make their ideas come alive. We look forward to reaching out to students in high school and college but for now, we’ll love to start with middle schools.

How is?

How relevant is STEM to national and global development?

The relevance of STEM cannot be over emphasized. We believe the many challenges of the world today require advanced solutions away from the traditional way of doing things and STEM has the power of that. The mandate of every generation is to conserve, criticize and contribute and we can leave the world a better place by contributing through STEM.

Which?

Which people lead and Teach?

In 2021, we established a team of volunteers who had foreknowledge in STEM and trained them to be better in that field. These volunteers serve as coaches and mentors to the young people we have reached so far, Experts are also invited to teach and share knowledge on the topic to spark an interest in young people. We are working on training more young people and tutors in STEM to change the narrative. The future looks exciting for STEM education.

Our PROJECTS

Here's what we've done.

Mitochondria

As part of Youth Arise Organization’s aim to bridge the gap between young people and STEM, Mitochondria, a STEM initiative designed for students to explore, create, make, and learn about exciting opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering And Mathematics was introduced in 2021. The pilot program was run in Ghana in 2 primary schools where Junior high school students were coached. The approach to this is simple and awesome: we present a novel to students to read and identify engineering solutions to the problems in the novel. They then build prototypes . (This concept termed Novel Engineering was developed by Tufts University Center for Engineering Education and Outreach in Massachusetts, USA.) Then we organize a competition to ignite the creative imagination of elementary school students to design and build either a bridge, or anything amazing you can think of!

Ways to give

Let's take STEM Education to the moon.

We have a vision of turning Mitochondria into a world class STEM institution where young people are trained into STEM experts and tutors in middle schools are well equipped with STEM knowledge. But before that ,between 2021 and 2023, we want to reach out to 50 schools in all 16 regions of Ghana and introduce STEM to the young people in the community. The future is STEM and as we say: STEM is just beginning.
Your contribution of $20.00 will make it possible for us to get equipment and resourced persons to help this vision come alive . Want to help?
