Our Story
Introduction
Wait; how old are you again?”
“So you just got out of high school?”
“Let’s leave this for the big guys”
As young youth workers, our unique experiences and backgrounds have this recurring theme in common: “neglect because we are young.” Rising above the mindsets and challenges that have been associated with being young has been a really tough journey, we’ll tell you that. But this is not to say that our lives have been gloomy and dark; we have relied on mentors, guides and people who are generally older than us, and have more experience in the world. Mentorship has been a driving force for us in navigating the difficult circumstances in the world, of trying to just be meaningful and make valued contributions to society. Many young people have the urge to take their futures beyond the walls of the status quo. We all have our moments when we feel a deep sense of inspiration and we realize that we can live above our limiting beliefs and rise beyond the average, generating a sense of accomplishment that ties to a deeper desire that drives us to continue growing. Mentorship and advice for young people, beyond the ordinary, is essential to nurture our inspirations to become a huge force.

Our Journey (So Far)
So… let’s start from the beginning… sit tight and let’s take you back in time to “drum roll please…” 2013. Yes, Youth Arise Organization began in 2013 as a radio program (although we are not into radio anymore, we might go back there soon though). Now back to the story: the radio program was started by our founder, Moses Baffour Awuah, on the campus of Central University College in Ghana. Moses, who was a student at the time, saw the benefit he had from mentoring relationships in his life, and wanted to share that with the young people in the country through radio. As with any world changing idea (and a lot of them start in college dorm rooms), this evolved to encompass more ideas than a radio program. With time, Moses formed a team of four and organized a six-week mentoring course for high school graduates, which eventually became our flagship workshop – Leadership Diary Training Program. With time things began to expand and here we are.
Since our inception in 2013, Youth Arise Organization has created 6 different programs, and 2 projects to give young people the power to rise above the social stigma and redefine their life ideals. Check out the “Programs” tab to get more details about the programs YAO currently has team members from all over Ghana and countries such as Morocco, Nigeria, and the United States. Our activities aim to impact people of every race, culture, language, color; to be a global organization that works to make a difference in the lives of young people all around the world.
