Arise Center's Free Flow Project Empowers 1,000 Girls in Menstrual Hygiene Management

The Arise Center for Holistic Health, Wellness, and Nutrition has successfully concluded the first phase of its Free Flow Project (FFP), aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene management among young girls. The holistic approach has gained traction as more stakeholders pledge their support.

Here are the key highlights of this impactful initiative:

The Free Flow Project centered on promoting holistic menstrual hygiene management practices among 1,000 girls. Rather than just focusing on the menstrual cycle, the project aimed to educate and empower girls about the significance of menstrual health in their lives.

The Project received support from various individuals through generous donations. These contributions have been instrumental in making the initiative a success.

This phase of the project covered four locations, comprising three schools and one community. The project rollout schedule was as follows:

  1. Grace Preparatory School – Greater Accra (14th July, 2023)
  2. Kwaprow Basic and JHS – Central (21st July, 2023)
  3. Ayeduase Basic and JHS – Ashanti (28th July, 2023)
  4. Glefe Community Beachside – Greater Accra. (26th August, 2023)

The Free Flow Project successfully reached its target of 1,000 girls, leaving a lasting impact on participants. Key stakeholders at the visited locations expressed their support for the initiative and pledged to be donors. This support is a testament to the project’s importance and its ability to spark positive change in communities.

Participants were vocal about how the project had positively influenced their perspectives on menstruation. They now view menstrual hygiene management practices as a crucial aspect of their lives, not just a classroom topic. Many participants expressed their willingness to adopt lifestyle modifications to improve their menstrual health. Even those who were initially shy about discussing menstruation actively contributed to discussions. One young girl even shared her anticipation of menstruating the following day, highlighting the project’s ability to break down barriers and encourage open conversations.

What’s next for the project?
Looking ahead, the Free Flow Project is gearing up for its second phase. This next phase aims to normalize menstruation among young girls and boys, employing different approaches to achieve this crucial goal. The project continues to gather momentum, driven by its mission to empower and educate.

The Arise Center for Holistic Health, Wellness, and Nutrition, a specialized agency under Youth Arise remains committed to promoting menstrual hygiene management and fostering a positive change in communities. As it embarks on its next phase, the project promises to make an even greater impact in the lives of young girls and boys.
