On January 30, 2025, the STEM Explorers Network (SEN), an agency under the United Youth Arise system, hosted its first SEN Day Out for 2025 at Kwabenya Senior High School. The event, themed “STEM for All: Unlocking Possibilities Across Disciplines,” aimed to shatter the myth that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is only for science students. Instead, it showcased how STEM intersects with everyday life and diverse fields like fashion, sports, and agriculture.

The event kicked off with an interactive session, where the Executive Director of SEN challenged students with a thought-provoking question: “Who thinks STEM is only for science students?” This set the tone for the day, as students discovered that STEM is for everyone—whether they love art, business, sports, or engineering. Through video presentations and interactive talk, students learned how STEM is practiced in their daily lives, from calculating tips to fixing cars.

One of the highlights of the day was a video presentation, which emphasized that STEM is not as complex as it seems. Students were surprised to learn that they already think like STEM professionals when they solve everyday problems.

After the event, participants shared how their perceptions of STEM had been transformed. Margaret Afia Boaduwaa Okyere, a student who once doubted her ability to pursue a STEM-related career, left the event inspired. “Today’s event encouraged me to pursue biomedical science,” she said. “It proved that my course is not difficult, and I can achieve anything.”

Bimpomah Regina, a student who loves art, discovered how technology can be used to create innovative artwork. “I now see how STEM is involved in fashion, arts, agriculture, and sports,” she shared. Alfred Mintah also a student realized that STEM is for everyone, regardless of their field of interest. “No matter what I am doing, I’m also a part of STEM,” he said.

The event also highlighted practical ways for students to get involved in STEM, such as through free learning resources, and STEM competitions. SEN’s programs, including Robotics Bootcamps, Hackathons, and STEM AI Discussions, were also introduced as opportunities for students to deepen their engagement with STEM.

The SEN Day Out achieved its goal of inspiring students to see STEM as a tool for creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. By showcasing the relevance of STEM across disciplines, SEN is helping to shape a future where every individual, regardless of their background, can thrive in the dynamic world of STEM.
